Making masking fun & instructive.
In my role as lead editor on the Engagement Design team in Adobe Brand Studio, I helped our video content team create a tutorial showing users how masking in Adobe Premiere Pro helps with visual effects, especially sight gags.
We found Edwin Chung, a social video creator who loves showing his behind-the-scenes secrets on Instagram as ed.it.son. We asked him to propose a simple example where he appears twice in the same scene. He took it further by having his two selves interact with each other.
His trick relies on some clever blocking, layered footage, and the use of static and animated masks. We finalized the workflow based on Edwin’s instructions, created the tutorial copy and associated imagery, designed the page layout per established specs, finalized the sample downloadable asset, and created an enticing ambient video that summarizes the tutorial.
