GOAL
Showcase the top social posts of the year

Ringing out the year with a “best of” reel — actually, three.

Every day the Adobe Discover team “scours Instagram for the most exciting new work from incredible creators, delivering daily inspiration, how-tos, and free resources for creative people” on the Adobe Create channel @adobecreate.

Before 2022 officially ended, the social media editors wanted to promote “the most loved, most viewed, most engaged-with pieces” on the channel. They asked me to compile those posts into three breezy videos featuring the top how-tos, free assets, and “best of Instagram.”

Creating these compilation reels required finding the best visual wow moments in each artist’s work — basically whatever jumped out at me while I scrubbed through the timeline in Premiere Pro. The Kinetic Box Animation motion graphics template from Adobe Stock served as an ideal title design, given my time constraints and design resources.

Turning three into one.

Besides using an identical title design throughout each video, I decided that the intro — just under 4 sec. — should use the same visuals to help make all this stuff look like a series. The editors liked this approach, and it helped us focus on a succinct way to write the titles consistently.

Cutting a montage is easier when there’s a music track to give a rhythm. Upbeat Summer Nu Disco on Adobe stock became the scratch track. Too bad it wouldn’t make it into the final post. Stock music is apparently no match for New Order, Toro y Moi, or French 79.
